While most tourists trek to the Tops in Busay to get a nice peek of Cebu City, some book at Marco Polo Hotel in Lahug to obtain a more relaxing panoramic view of the city with a bonus of a gastronomic breakfast buffet.
Marco Polo is located in the hills of Nivel, Cebu City and is 40 minutes away from the Mactan International Airport. No need to take the airport taxi, which will set you back by P550. Just proceed to the departure area and there are city taxi cabs waiting in queue. The metered ride to Marco Polo will not even reach P350.
I got my Deluxe Room for an affordable P3,800 a night only (breakfast buffet included). I bought the discounted Marco Polo vouchers from the Travel Expo 2011 in SMX last February. Tip: There is an upcoming Travel Tour Expo on February 17-19, 2012 at the SMX Convention Center and Marco Polo is one of the exhibitors. Inquire about the Deluxe Room vouchers from their booth.
Check out the exhibitors list at: (http://tte.ptaa.org.ph/downloads/19TTE%20Exhibitors%20List_as%20of%2029Nov2011_4pm.pdf).

The room was cozy and well-appointed. It was neither too cramped nor too spacious. The only thing it lacked was a toilet bidet. I will trade a bathtub for a bidet anytime.
The icing on the cake for Marco Polo was the mouth-watering and extensive breakfast buffet selection. The choices were so varied that I had to sample a little of everything. Heck, they even had the thick, hot chocolate made from tablea for the kids (most establishments only have the hot choco made from Ricoa cocoa powder). The morning smorgasboard was already sufficient to cover my lunch needs.
Lastly, the hotel provides for free shuttle rides to Ayala Center and SM at designated times daily. Be sure to book your drop-off and pick-up in advance at the front desk. The Korean tourists travel in groups and they are heavy users of the hotel van. You do not want to miss out on the freebie by not reserving ahead of the pack.
Tired of being too close to the malls and restaurants (think Radisson Blu, Marriott and Waterfront), then consider Marco Polo Plaza Hotel as a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle of the Cebu metropolis without even leaving the city.

Marco Polo, thank you for dropping by the blog. Much appreciated.
I hope you can still offer discounted vouchers in the Travel Fair in SMX this Feb 2012 so I can stay in your hotel again.
